New Year, New Ideas

So, I’m starting a new project.

It builds off of and takes place 30-some odd years after Chewing Vacuum, and follows Jahenna Malnix as she is tasked to find a ghost ship left over from the early days of galactic colonization. Much had changed in Jahenna’s life, and I’m moving my attention to this new project because, quite frankly, I started Vacuum as a prototype and it sort of blew up in my face. C’est la vie. I learned a lot, and I’m applying it as I go to much greater effect! I’ll revisit Chewing Vacuum after I’ve had some time to let it stew and after this project comes to fruition. I want to focus on Jahenna’s life after the war more than the war itself.

The project is called Centaurs Ark, and follows Jahenna Malnix (now a former doctor of archeology) and a ragtag group of explorers and scientists as they venture far out into deep space. Their goal: recover a technological wonder from the distant past that features tech not easily recreated, all before Tau Ceti forces can intercept and impede their way home. This far out, nobody can save them. They are well and truly on their own.

The project is still early on (I’m a little under 30k words I reckon,) and I’m working on it as fast as my fingers can cross the keyboard. I plan on using plausible science that’s not exactly “hard sci-fi,” while also being enjoyable enough to be picked up by an everyday reader or someone who enjoys science fiction. I want a sense of verisimilitude in this project, much like how The Expanse handled their Epsteindrive/torch ship tech and how science is integrated in (but necessary to understand) the story.

In fact, a pitch I would make for this whole series is “Indiana Jones meets The Expanse.” I hope that sounds as interesting to you as it does to me!

In addition to news about other projects, I also plan to drop the occasional blog post from time to time here on my website. I’m no science communicator, but I pride myself on being able to break down and explain some pretty cool subjects that I’m passionate about. Stay tuned and watch this space!

That’s it for now. I’ll see you all out in the void. Best wishes and take care out there!

Life Comes At You Fast.

The past two months have been rough:

  • Burnout from going a little too hard on projects outside of work.
  • Medical issues from too much stress.
  • Emotional exhaustion from damn near everything else.

Soon (hopefully very soon,) I should have some good news to share about a mini novella I wrote appearing in an anthology. I can’t say much more right now, but if there’s any sort of silver lining here, I’ll take it.

In the meanwhile, I’ve decided to take Chewing Vacuum and break it up into shorter, easier to digest novellas. This keeps the story simple and compact (and allows the first one to be free, which I always kind of intended) while allowing me to continue working on the others as they come along. Starting tomorrow I’ll have them updated and available as a free .epub or .pdf–featuring a chapter or two that I never quite got around to posting…

In short, I’m not done with this story by any means, and I have A Plan for this universe I’m creating, so please continue to Watch This Space!

In the meanwhile, I’m looking at NaNoWriMo and thinking it’s a good opportunity to do something new and different as I get back atop my horse. I have an idea, and it’s a doozy, but I’ll leave you with a hint: Tinfoil.

Hang in there, everybody.

Three Quick Things:

One, I realized I never mentioned my update schedule…that’s on me. Look for new Chapters every Monday!

Two, I’m playing around with Ko-fi, and thinking about setting up a subscription service in the next few days if anyone is interested. For 3 bucks a month, you’d get the next chapter a week early, and for 5 you’d get the occasional behind-the-scene draft or world-building document behind my creative process–in addition to early access to chapters!

Three, if reading on my website is somehow problematic I’m going to start branching out onto Wattpad or other similar services. Let me be clear: my website is the place to go for the most recent chapters. Other platforms will be at least a week behind.

Lastly, I just want to say thank you so much for going on this journey with me! I have big plans in store, and am eager and excited to share them with you all!

Cheers!

Welcome

Hello world! Welcome to my website! From here you’ll get access to my latest fiction projects, as well as where to find older ones. We’re going to start this show off with something I’ve hinted at for a few weeks now on Threads: a serial novel called Chewing Vacuum: a military sci-fi story set in a large universe that I have great plans for later on.

Be sure to sign up for my newsletter to stay up-to-date on the latest posts and developments, and consider supporting me on Ko-fi!
