So, I’m starting a new project.
It builds off of and takes place 30-some odd years after Chewing Vacuum, and follows Jahenna Malnix as she is tasked to find a ghost ship left over from the early days of galactic colonization. Much had changed in Jahenna’s life, and I’m moving my attention to this new project because, quite frankly, I started Vacuum as a prototype and it sort of blew up in my face. C’est la vie. I learned a lot, and I’m applying it as I go to much greater effect! I’ll revisit Chewing Vacuum after I’ve had some time to let it stew and after this project comes to fruition. I want to focus on Jahenna’s life after the war more than the war itself.
The project is called Centaurs Ark, and follows Jahenna Malnix (now a former doctor of archeology) and a ragtag group of explorers and scientists as they venture far out into deep space. Their goal: recover a technological wonder from the distant past that features tech not easily recreated, all before Tau Ceti forces can intercept and impede their way home. This far out, nobody can save them. They are well and truly on their own.
The project is still early on (I’m a little under 30k words I reckon,) and I’m working on it as fast as my fingers can cross the keyboard. I plan on using plausible science that’s not exactly “hard sci-fi,” while also being enjoyable enough to be picked up by an everyday reader or someone who enjoys science fiction. I want a sense of verisimilitude in this project, much like how The Expanse handled their Epsteindrive/torch ship tech and how science is integrated in (but necessary to understand) the story.
In fact, a pitch I would make for this whole series is “Indiana Jones meets The Expanse.” I hope that sounds as interesting to you as it does to me!
In addition to news about other projects, I also plan to drop the occasional blog post from time to time here on my website. I’m no science communicator, but I pride myself on being able to break down and explain some pretty cool subjects that I’m passionate about. Stay tuned and watch this space!
That’s it for now. I’ll see you all out in the void. Best wishes and take care out there!
